Trip to London and new designs!

If you follow me on Facebook or Instagram you’ll have noticed recently I’ve had a trip to London with my hairdresser and friend Louise. Louise works on a lot of the VF shoots with me and also has to put up with me!

The main reason for our visit was to check out a fabric and trim trade show. There are lots of suppliers out there but I’m looking for UK based companies which offer small quantity’s to little brands like mine. I did look at a lot of bridal companies for my bespoke clients but what I really wanted is new fabrics for the ready-to-wear. I think it’s time to shake things up a bit by sourcing new materials and introducing new styles!

I do look at what is on trend each season but Violet Flamingo has never been about fast moving fashion. I want to create pieces that can be worn season after season, that can be worn the various occasions, creating a capsule collection in your wardrobe.

Current top four trends I love for Spring/Summer 2017 are –

  • *** Statement sleeves – Now if you’ve spoken to me at the studio you may know my favourite garments to make are jackets. I love pattern cutting them, making them, they’re just so satisfying to create! I really enjoy a good sleeve and shoulder, the more statement the better. So this is something I constantly think about when I’m designing, I have recently purchased some amazing 40’s style shoulder pads and I’m hope to bring these into the range soon.
  • *** Sheer dresses – Well I love layers and sheer mesh and lace are always one of my favourites, especially black! If we have never met before I actually wear all black most of the time, the main reason is I love layers plus combining fabric and textures. For example mixing wet look with knitwear, sheer lace with heavy structured cotton or sequins with mesh. I think layering in this way is really interesting and black always looks smart for work.
  • *** White – OK so this is a trend, lets be honest when is white not on trend for Summer! I really do love white dresses in the warmer months as you can’t have a fresher look than that.
  • *** Stripes – I love stripes and lots of people are scared of them due to the idea of the pattern making them look bigger. If I ever uses stripes I think very carefully of the direction and cut of the garment, if they’re done right they can be very slimming. My personal favourite is black and white stripe but that may be the Beetlejuice fan in me!

Like I mentioned before I live in black with hints of violet and grey, you can see this strong theme in my work but you guys just love and keep requesting colour. Colours that I like and will happily work with are always strong jewel tones, so you have something new in store this Spring. Always remember though if you like a design you can have it made in any custom colour or print for a small extra charge, just get in touch to discus ideas.

Finally at this months pop up shop on the 25th of March, I will be discontinuing lots of items in the range and selling off some one of a kind pieces. It’s time to make room for lovely new designs, this new collection will start being released at the end of April.

What do we do?

We provide two services here at Violet Flamingo, we have our ready to wear collections, and also a completely bespoke service, and all of our garments are made from scratch, in the studio.

What is Ready to Wear?

Our ready to wear collections are available to purchase online, and are available to view by appointment, each style of garment is never made more than 50 times, and comes with its own personal numbered tag, Garments generally range from size 8-18 however if you’d like a different size or would like a different colour/fabric, feel free to get in touch, Lindsey will be happy to help find something to work for you and make you happy.

What is Bespoke?

A bespoke garment is a personal garment, it’s unique, its special, its YOURS, you design it. Your initial consultation will be online (Click here to Contact) where we will see your rough ideas and send you an estimate quote. We then will invite you to the studio, where we ask you to bring pictures and ideas of things you want your garment to have, colour schemes, neck lines you like, we want to see your style, we will then sketch with you, and discuss fabric choices. Once we have a finalised design, we will begin production of your completely unique item. Roughly we ask for 6 months from your first message until delivery, however if something unexpected pops up, we know it happens, we will tell you in your first consultation whether we can help you or not.
